Space Mono is a quirky and cute “fixed width” or “monospaced font”. Space mono is structured upon a geometric foundation and flourished with grotesque details. These characteristics give it a nostalgic charm that’s reminiscent of the 1960’s retro futurism in cheesy sci-fi media. Look closely at this font and it becomes apparent many glyphs lean into a seemingly mismatched composition. Notably descenders tend to follow a condensed square shape and there are many clipped strokes. Leaning into this “awkwardness” gives space mono its nerdy charm.
